Raku is a alternative firing technique where clay pieces are pulled from the kiln while glowing red hot, about 1800°F. They are placed in a metal container of combustible materials that ignite on contact and are covered to smoke. This method of firing brings out rich blacks, intricate crackle patterns, lustrous metallics, and flashes of color to create a unique, one of a kind work of art.
