The Oxford Thackeray (c. 1900) Rare Illustrated Antique Edition in Original Slip Case, Henry offers Esmond, English Humourists, Four Georges

A beautiful antique edition of Henry Esmond, The English Humourists, The Four Georges, by William Makepeace Thackeray

The Oxford Thackeray edition with 38 illustrations, and first edition thus. Edited by George Saintsbury. No publication date stated, est. circa 1900-1910, published at the Oxford University Press on Oxford India Paper.

Bound in a maroon coloured calves leather, with gilt tooling to spine and gilt top edges to pages. Original ribbon marker present, and original (yet worn) slip case present. Brown marbled end papers to front and rear, free of inscriptions. Black and white illustration plate to frontispiece page and many more throughout the text pages! Pages are bright and clear, with one or two handling marks within pages and very light ageing wear to fly pages. Binding is in good antique condition, some markings to page edges and gilt top edge.

Leather boards show some markings to them and slight turning to corners. Rubbing offers and some sunning to leather on the spine, light chipping to top and tail edges. The slip case is worn and has done it's job of protecting this wonderful book throughout the years! Fraying and ripping along some of the edges, and a split to one side
