Hand offers embroidered patchwork in cotton and silk - white beige and blue

Each Takla Makan embroidered scarf is a unique piece, each of them is like a dreamy landscape, carefully composed by myself out of precious left overs from the garments collections.

This scarf is a patchwork of cotton and silk; This patchwork is fully hand embroidered with colors which enhance the colors of the background fabrics.
The pattern chosen here is “mathur".

I compose the patchwork carefully with left overs fromour garments collection fabrics. It is assembled in the workshop, then I choose the thread colors and patterns to be used for the “kantha” embroidery, either simpe running stitch, or traditional geometrical patterns. Each pattern has its own name, such as “bilai powti” (cat's paw) or “laathi” (stick)…

The hand embroideries are made by the women offers trained by our partner NGO, Katna's Kantha in West Bengal. The underprivileged women from the neighbouring villages benefit from many social programs run by the NGO, such as an english medium school for both boys and girls, which is totally free for the children of the embroiderers. The program has made tremendous changes in this conservative and muslim district, by empowering women and giving their children a very good education.
